“Something Old, Something New”

The art of Mark Rivard, Russ Olson, and Kyle Lunneborg

It’s been half a decade since the art of Mark Rivard has graced the city of Minneapolis and in that time the artist has been a very busy man.  It was June of 2004 when a group of friends put on a do-it-yourself art show at the Blue Nile.  Both Mark and Russ were apart of that show and have been trying to show together ever since.  Well, the time has come; the two have partnered up with another amazing artist, Kyle Lunneborg, and will be showing once again, finally, at the one and only Gallery at Cal Surf…

In that five years Mark has shown his art at solo exhibitions in Breckenridge, Colorado, a solo exhibition in Leuven, Belgium, a solo show at the Times Infinity Gallery in Seattle, Washington, as well as group exhibitions in Detroit, Denver, and most recently the Art Raw Gallery in New York City.  He has since started the acclaimed Rivard Art Inc., a company built around his work as a skateboard illustrator.  Mark will return home to Minneapolis to show us all what he’s been doing with his time as a professional artist.

Russ Olson is the stuff of legends.  In that five years since their show at the Blue Nile Russ and his art have become a mainstay of the Uptown scenery.  Russ’ photography is on a level of brilliance that cannot be described in words.  Russ has spent hundreds of hours scouring the city and it’s surroundings taking a creative eye and turning a great photo into a masterpiece, he is a master of a style of photography that he and only he can achieve.  The anticipation of what new work Russ will show is almost too much to bear.

Kyle Lunneborg has been quietly slaying the art world with his unique style of painting.  Kyle left the Uptown life a few years ago to pursue his art in the Emerald City of Seattle, WA.  Kyle’s work can only be described as nothing short of spectacular!  The creator of the infamous Paper Marbles, Kyle has been busy utilizing those dark days in the Pacific Northwest to conjure up imagery that is sure to keep you staring.  Kyle is the perfect compliment to the “Something Old, Something New” lineup as this show is sure to be remembered.

We hope you’ll join us at the exclusive opening reception on Friday, May 1st at the Gallery At Cal Surf.  The show will open at 7pm and will run through May.

Rivard Art Inc. Press Release.

It is with great pride that I write to announce the official opening of the new home of Rivard Art Inc. and the new Rivard Art Gallery/Showroom.

After two years in business Rivard Art Inc. has made the migration from the sleepy mountains of Colorado to the hustle and bustle of the very art-forward and progressive city of Minneapolis, MN.  Finding the perfect location amidst the heart of the Minneapolis art world Rivard Art has landed and built its nest in the California Building of Northeast Minneapolis’ Arts District.  This 750 sqft. art loft dubbed, “Studio 512” will play host to a private gallery and show space of all things Rivard Art related, also serving as the offices and working studio of artist/marketer Mark Rivard.

The Rivard Art Gallery has spawned from the same rebellious nature and do-it-yourself attitude that was the spark of the business from the beginning with its skateboard roots.  It was June of 2004 when Mark Rivard orchestrated his first art show with a collaboration of art minded friends.  In the six years since that fateful, life changing night Mark Rivard has gone on to create Rivard Art Inc., participated in numerous art shows from the galleries of Manhattan, to solo shows in Seattle, Colorado, as well as group shows in Denver, Detroit, and Minneapolis, with an extremely fortunate opportunity to do a solo show in Leuven, Belgium.  In this six year span not only has Rivard Art Inc. been conceived but Mark Rivard has gone on to use this recognition to do multiple charitable events, including the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, many fundraisers benefiting the ill and medically misfortunate, as well as Boarding For Breast Cancer.  Numerous school visits from the industrial cities of Belgium, to Colorado elementary schools, to the deserts of the Middle East have allow Rivard Art the chance to connect and offer inspiration to the youth of the world by illustrating the underlying backbone of Rivard Art which is anything is possible if you try.

Through personal and professional highs and lows Rivard Art has persevered and grown despite the economical turbulence that has faced all business’ of a creative nature in recent years.  This success can be attributed to the fact that Rivard Art Inc. does not follow the typical business path nor does it ever intend to.  Rivard Art Inc. is a company based on creative thought and dreams, not a business plan.  This success has been allowed through a number of various partnerships and relationships, included a wonderful endorsement partnership with Sharpie Permanent Markers.  Sharpie has long been known as the premier marker in the world and in the case of Mark Rivard was the first tool used to create art, incidentally creating the building blocks for Rivard Art Inc.   After signing on to be a member of the 2010 Sharpie Squad Mark Rivard was given a renewed sense of motivation to take bold steps towards making Rivard Art a thriving business and opening the Rivard Art Gallery.

July 10th, 2010 marks the first show and open house of the Rivard Art Gallery and studio.  In this inaugural show 7 artists from around country have come together to provide a glimpse of things to come in Studio 512.
